Vegvisir (the runic compass, Viking compass, Nordic compass) is a compass-like symbol known for its guiding and protective qualities. The bearer of Vegvisir is said to always find their way despite the challenges of the journey, even when they do not know where they are going. According to one belief, during the Viking Age Vegvisir symbols were painted with blood on a warrior’s forehead, in a similar way to the Aegishjalmur symbol, to help them find their way to their destination and safely back again. The eight arms of Vegvisir are said to represent the four cardinal directions and the four intermediate directions. Vegvisir has also been associated with a sundial. (Source: Mythologian.net)
The Viking Drum is a unique piece of Finnish craftsmanship. It is a versatile instrument that can be used not only for drumming, but also for meditation, healing sessions, or simply to bring atmosphere and a touch of mystery to your home.
The frame of the Viking Drum is made of double-layered birch plywood, and the drumhead is Finnish reindeer hide. The wooden cross handle provides a firm and comfortable grip.
The design is screen-printed. Please note: The Viking Drum is well suited for playing, but the printed symbols may wear off if they are rubbed, scratched, or exposed to repeated friction.
A drum beater is included in the price of the shaman drum. Please note that the colour and shape of the beater may differ from the one shown in the photos.

A drum was probably one of the first instruments that was used all over the world, including in Scandinavia. The process of drum making was probably similar where Viking craftsmen created a ring shaped wooden hoop and over it, they stretched a drumhead made of animal skin. The drumhead was then decorated with paintings, symbols or other meaningful elements.
In the footsteps of ancient drum makers, we create our Viking drums using similar methods and decorating the drum with symbols that were important to the Vikings. The drum has a nice, deep and vibrating sound that takes you back in time of myths and legends.

Please note that our viking drum is great for playing but if the symbols are scratched or scraped deliberately, the might wear off.
How to care for your new drum
- use grease or some leather conditioner couple times a year
- keep the drum for example on the wall but not directly in the sunlight or near a heater (strong air conditioning can also dry the drum)
- don’t leave the drum in a hot car during the summer
- The drum doesn’t like dry air. The risk is that the drumhead becomes too tight causing it to rip (usually really cold weather equals dry air)

Tuning
The drum is very sensitive to the air humidity loosening it in a moist weather and tightening it in a dry weather. This affects the sound as well.
If your drum is too loose, you can dry it e.g. in the sunlight or with a hair dryer.
If your drum is too tight, you can spray water on the skin or wipe it with the moist cloth. The drumhead doesn’t respond immediately so wait a couple of minutes.
Colouring/painting
The decoration on the drumhead has been made using silk printing. If you liked to add your own symbols or colour, you can use acrylic- or oil colours ( please test first on a small area). Our drums are greased once the drumhead is attached, so that it does not rip. Therefore, it would be good to avoid painting straightaway after you have received the drum. If you have any concerns regarding painting the drum, please contact us.
The frame is made of birch plywood which is very suitable for carving your own symbols or adding some paint. You could also decorate your frame with different kind of talismans, feathers, pearls and other things of your liking.

An Immersive Shamanic Drum Experience in a Handcrafted Kota
Experience a shamanic journey in Lapland – come for a restorative sound journey!
In our garden stands small handcrafted kota, with a fire crackling at its heart. Wooden benches line the walls and you settle beside the flames. You're wrapped up warmly, as outside the frost grips hard and winter paints its light across the sky – in stars, northern lights, or the sun's low-hanging glow.
Your hosts step inside with their drums. The rhythm begins slowly and fills the space. The sound travels through your body, your eyes drift closed and your mind grows still. All that remains is the fire, the rhythm of the drum, and this moment.
We welcome groups of 2–6 people. The experience is offered as a private booking, with a minimum charge for two people. A small group allows for a peaceful, focused experience around the fire and drum.
The drum session isn't a performance or a lecture. We're not here to entertain, but to create a space where you can quieten down and simply be. The experience is built on sound, fire, and presence – not on words.
The drum's vibrations affect many people deeply. It can relax the body, open the mind, and bring emotions or visions to the surface. Each person experiences the moment in their own way. There's a touch of northern silence and a hint of mysticism woven through.

This is a really big drum that is perfect for musicians and “serious” playing. It is also great for healing sessions or if you need to reach a large group of people as the sound will get you easily to a meditative state. Please note that the drum is quite heavy, so in longer sessions it might start to feel heavy to carry but you can get a good grip of the wooden handle to support you.

DIY Shamanic Drum Kit (M-size, brown)
Now you can conveniently make your own drum with this complete kit. Drum making is accessible even for beginners.
The shamanic drum frame is round and brown (colour may differ from the image).
The shamanic drum frame has a diameter of approximately 40 cm. The frame is made of birch plywood and protected with wood wax. The frame is covered with reindeer hide that needs to be soaked before attachment. You can dye the hide with powder stain (sold separately in our shop) or with plant-based dyes. The package also includes materials for the drumstick and handle.
A three-page illustrated colour guide is included.
Read the instructions carefully and allow yourself plenty of time, patience, and crafting joy! We recommend beginners set aside approximately 3-4 hours for the drum-making process.

The Viking drum Valknut is lookig for its owner...is it you? The drum has a low sound that resonates deep in the player´s body. It brings with it the Nine Noble Virtues of the Vikings: Courage, truth, honour, fidelity, discipline, hospitality, self-reliance, industriousness and perseverance.
The mystical symbol of Valknut is made of three interlocked triangles that create nine corners. They signify the nine worlds depiced in the Scandinavian mythology. The tree triangles represent a trinity of heaven, earth and hell. Scholars have proposed a variety of explanations for the symbol, sometimes associating it with the god Odin or religious practices surrounding death. Viking drum Aegishjalmur is a unique instrument handcraft with care in Finnish Lapland. The deep sound of this medium size drum will soothe your mind and relax your tense muscles. You can even scare away unwanted guests and spirits with its loud sound!
Aegishjalmur (The Helm of Awe) is a well-known Viking era symbol which was painted on warriors´helmets or foreheads. Vikings believed that the Aegishjalmur symbol would grant a victory in every battle which increased their self-confidence and they went into the battle with no worries about their fate. Symbol’s circle in the middle represents a protecting place where the warrior was safe. Eight spikes around the circle represents defence from evil forces and the lines within these spikes strengthened this defence.
