The shamanic drum is a versatile instrument that, in addition to playing, is suitable for meditation, interior decoration, and healing practices. Rumpu-ukko’s shamanic drums are crafted from domestic reindeer hide and birch plywood. The image is hand-painted by the artist directly onto the hide.

Power animal drum The Fox is M-sized (diameter 41 cm) drum and it has been decorated with a hand-painted image of a graceful deer. The frame is double layered birch plywood which has been treated with wood wax.
Every power animal drum is unique. Round shaped handle is attached to the back with strings.

Maintaining
Shaman drum is a carefree instrument if you remember a few basic things:
- use grease or some leather conditioner couple times a year
- keep the drum for example on the wall but not directly on the sunlight or near a heater (strong air conditioning can also dry the drum)
- don’t leave the drum in a hot car during the summer
- The drum doesn’t like dry air humidity. The risk is that the hide becomes too tight causing it to rip (usually really cold weather equals dry air)

Tuning
The drum “lives” with the air humidity loosening it in a moist weather and tightening it in a dry weather. So, air humidity influences the sound. If your drum is too loose you can dry it in the sun or for example with a hair dryer. If your drum is too tight you can use water to moist it (for example spraying water on top of the hide or wiping with a moist cloth). The hide doesn’t respond immediately so wait a couple of minutes. Christening
Christening a drum is an old tradition in which the drum and the owner becomes “one” and the drum turns personal. Christening is not necessary just an old tradition. Read more about shamanism.

DIY Shamanic Drum Kit (M-size, black frame)
The shamanic drum frame is round and black (colour may differ from the image).
The shamanic drum frame has a diameter of approximately 40 cm. The frame is made of birch plywood and protected with wood wax. The frame will be covered with reindeer hide that needs to be soaked before attachment. You can dye the hide with powder stain (sold separately in our shop) or with plant-based dyes. The package also includes materials for the drumstick and handle.
A three-page illustrated colour guide is included.
Read the instructions carefully and allow yourself plenty of time, patience, and crafting joy! We recommend beginners set aside approximately 3-4 hours for the drum-making process.
