A beautiful and unique shaman drum that was handcrafted with love and care in our workshop in Finnish Lapland. It has a magical, deep sound with powerful vibrations.
This is a really big drum that is perfect for musicians and “serious” playing. It is also great for healing sessions or if you need to reach a large group of people as the sound will get you easily to a meditative state. Please note that the drum is quite heavy, so in longer sessions it might start to feel heavy to carry but you can get a good grip of the wooden handle to support you.
Being environmentally friendly and ethical, we source our materials locally from known and responsible suppliers. The frame is made of double-layered birch plywood which has been waxed with wood wax. The drumhead is Finnish reindeer skin that is either dyed with water colour stain or left natural. There is a wooden handle attached behind the drum.
A felted drumstick and instructions for caring for the drum are included in the package.

A shaman drum was probably one of the first instruments that was used all over the world. The sound will soothe your mind and relax your tense muscles.

How to care for your new drum:
Shaman drum is a carefree instrument if you remember a few basic things:
- use grease or some leather conditioner couple times a year
- keep the drum for example on the wall but not directly in the sunlight or near a heater (strong air conditioning can also dry the drum)
- don’t leave the drum in a hot car during the summer
- the drum doesn’t like dry air. The risk is that the drumhead becomes too tight causing it to rip (usually really cold weather equals dry air)
- instructions for caring for the drum are included in the package.
Tuning
The drum is very sensitive to the air humidity loosening it in a moist weather and tightening it in a dry weather. This affects the sound as well.
If your drum is too loose, you can dry it e.g. in the sunlight or with a hair dryer. If your drum is too tight, you can spray water on the skin or wipe it with the moist cloth. The drumhead doesn’t respond immediately so wait a couple of minutes.

Colouring/painting
If you liked to paint or add your own symbols to the drumhead, you can use acrylic- or oil colours (please test first on a small area). Our drums are greased once the drumhead is attached, so that it does not rip, therefore it would be good to avoid painting straightaway after you have received the drum. Please contact us if you have any concerns regarding painting the drum.
The frame is made of birch plywood which is very suitable for carving your own symbols or adding some paint. You could also decorate your frame with different kind of talismans, feathers, pearls and other elements of your liking.
Blessing the drum
Blessing a drum is an old tradition in which the energies of the drum and the owner merge and the drum becomes your own. Though, blessing is recommended, it is not necessary, you can still use the drum without doing it.

This magnificent, large-sized shamanic drum with excellent sound is handcrafted in our Lapland workshop. This unique drum conjures a meditative atmosphere with its deep sound. Its tone quietens the mind and relaxes tense muscles down to the cellular level. You can use the drum to deepen your meditation, create an enchanting atmosphere in group settings, or help clients relax during treatments.
The adjustment mechanism of the drum makes it a reliable companion. Even in humid summer weather, you won't be caught out, as you can easily adjust the skin tension using the inner tube. This is a particularly handy feature when you need an "always-ready" drum for healing work or performances. The adjustment mechanism operates simply through a car tyre valve. Note! We use a car valve, which is easier to adjust. An ordinary bicycle pump won't work with this valve.
Nature and caring for it is very important to us, which is why we source the drum's materials primarily from local, responsible suppliers. The frame is bent from double birch plywood, which is treated with wood wax. The shamanic drum's skin is Finnish reindeer hide, either natural or dyed in stunning colours with water-based stain. The drum's handle is made from wood gathered from the forest, shaped to fit the hand comfortably and bound into a cross with cord. The handle provides an excellent playing grip on the drum.

N.B. An adjustable drum is a functional solution, but even it won't sound in extreme conditions. Also note that pumping air in—tightening/loosening—stretches the drum skin and over time diminishes the skin's playing qualities. Oiling keeps the skin supple. For long-term storage, it's worth releasing the air from the tube so it doesn't unnecessarily strain the skin.
