As craftspeople dedicated to traditional Finnish drum-making, we often hear this question from prospective buyers. Whilst there’s no one-size-fits-all answer—as each person has their own style, colour preferences, and reasons for wanting to drum—we can guide you through the unique characteristics of our different drums to help you make an informed choice.

S-Drum: Small Yet Spirited

Our compact S-drum, measuring 31cm in diameter and weighing just 450g, is the perfect entry point into the world of drumming. Its portable nature makes it an ideal travel companion, and its lightweight design allows for extended playing sessions without fatigue. This size is particularly well-suited for children.

The S-drum produces a softer, more gentle sound compared to its larger counterparts, making it particularly suitable for flat-dwelling drummers mindful of their neighbours. I personally use the S-size drum for meditation sessions and sound therapy, where its gentle tones help guide clients into deeper states of relaxation.

These beautifully crafted drums also serve as striking decorative pieces, bringing a touch of natural magic into your living space.

M-Drum: The Versatile All-Rounder

Our M-size shamanic drum is an excellent all-purpose instrument, suitable for both beginners and experienced drummers alike. Available in either a round 41cm or oval 45x36cm design, these drums weigh approximately 700g. For extended playing sessions, we recommend resting the drum against your legs to prevent arm fatigue.

The M-drums produce a deep, resonant sound that you can feel in your core, naturally guiding listeners into an animated yet relaxed state. This makes them particularly effective for both group sessions and sound healing work. They remain apartment-friendly when played with considerate force.

L-Drum: The Ceremonial Power-House

Our largest drum is truly an impressive instrument. Its reverberating, far-reaching sound creates an immersive experience that resonates through every cell of your body. It generates a magical, meditative atmosphere where daily stresses dissolve, helping you achieve deeper presence through drumming.

The L-size shamanic drum is particularly suited for musicians, dedicated practitioners, and situations requiring sound projection to larger audiences. It excels in meditation sessions, shamanic journeying, healing work, and orchestral settings.

We craft our L-drums in two variations:

• Round: 50-54cm diameter with approximately 12cm depth
• Oval: 62x45cm with 12cm depth Both versions weigh around 1kg, requiring somewhat more strength to handle during play.

Each drum is meticulously handcrafted in our workshop in Lapland. We infuse positive energy into every drum we create, using natural materials—reindeer hide and birch plywood—sourced from responsible local producers. When you receive your drum, you’re welcoming a piece of Finnish nature and our love for Mother Earth into your home.
